The Alum Block, The Shavers best kept secret.

Of all the accessories available to the modern shaver perhaps one of the most useful, and yet, least known about is the alum block. Alum is a natural mineral and literally has been around for thousands of years, used on multiple continents from the Egyptians to the Indians. (It’s not that much of a secret after all!).

Essentially there are 2 types of alum, Potassium Alum, known commonly as Potash Alum and Ammonium Alum. Generally it is accepted that the more effective type is Potash Alum.

So, how exactly does it help the modern wet shaver?

Well, if you ever get a nick when shaving or suffer from redness or razor burn then this stuff is amazing.

Literally just gently glide the alum block over the wet face following the shave and instantly it sets to work. Alum is an antiseptic. It closes the skins pores and beats off the bacteria that causes infection on the skin. It really does help to stop minor skin bleeding after a shave, gently hold the block against the wet skin for say 30 secs and that’s it.

There is also another relatively unknown but really useful application of alum. It can be used as a natural crystal deodorant. Because it inhibits bacteria growth it can be applied to the underarms, not to prevent perspiration but to minimise body odour. Yes, it actually DOES work. We have also had some great feedback from ladies who use it following underarm shaving.
